How to Share Files Up to 10 GB on the Web, iOS and Android with WeTransfer
If I start counting the awesome cloud based services that help me send files to my friends and family, I’ll run out of fingers in about 8 seconds. Even if you don’t know what “the cloud” is, you’ve surely used it to send/store files. But for some reason, Gmail and other email providers still limit file uploads to mere MBs (sometimes as low as 25 MB) and don’t support many file types.
Of course, there are places like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Mega, that will allow you to share large files, but the experience is far from desirable.
The WeTransfer apps and website do one thing and one thing well – let you email big files and media to anyone. Oh, and you can transfer files up to 10 GB. All of it for free.
The Easiest Way To Get There
Why use WeTransfer, you ask?
- Upload files for free up to 10 GB, no signup required (for you or the recipient).
- The file stays online for 7 days.
- Instead of sending files as an attachment, the recipient receives a link.
- It’s the easiest way to transfer files.
The Android App
If you have an Android phone, the WeTransfer app is a must-have. It’s more powerful than the iPhone app and is identical to the website. The app itself will list all the photos and videos you have. Just tap on the ones you want to share, input the email address and you’re done. But this being Android, you can do a lot more.
WeTransfer integrates with Android’s built-in sharing menu. With it, you can send files to WeTransfer using any app that supports the sharing menu. This makes the Android app really useful. You can send docs from Google Drive, files in Dropbox or any document on your local storage directly to WeTransfer.
The iPhone App
iOS 7 is a closed system, which is why the WeTransfer’s iPhone app is limited. With iOS 8, Apple is improving its inter-app communication and in a few months, the iPhone app should be able to work just like the Android one. But right now, you can only choose photos and videos to share. If you’re sharing videos, depending on your upload speed, it can take a lot of time.
The Website
The website is even more liberal and easier to use than the Android app. You can either click the Add files button and choose files from the file picker or just drag and drop any file in the browser window. Once you’ve put in your and your friend’s email address and clicked theTransfer button, the upload will start.
When you’re on the website, you’ll see a Share button. It lets you switch to link instead of email. This way you’ll get the link directly after uploading the file. It’s useful if you want to just share it with someone via IM instead of email.
Give Me The Download Link With Apps
I don’t know why the WeTransfer apps don’t allow for this but it would be a great help if I could get the download link instead of sending an email when uploading from the phone. It would make sharing files with WhatsApp contacts really easy.
WeTransfer Plus
If you’re a business, you can opt for the WeTransfer Plus plan that costs $10 a month and comes with 50 GB of cloud storage space. Also, your files won’t be deleted after 7 days and you get password protection. If you’re using WeTransfer on the website, the normal limit is 2 GB compared to 10 GB for apps. Using WeTransfer Plus, you can extent this limit to 10 GB as well.
How To Download Instagram Photos And Videos On iPhone and Android
I hope by now we’ve established that Instagram is not just for selfies. In fact, some of the best shots I’ve seen recently came from my Instagram feed. The cameras in iPhones andtop-end Android phones these days are truly awesome. Combine that with Instagram finally getting advanced photo editing features that go far beyond the filters and more often than not, the outcome is truly mesmerizing.
But Instagram has no option to save a photo. What if you want to keep a photo you were tagged in for safe keeping? What if you can’t help but have that spectacularly captured lightning bolt as a wallpaper? With the help of these apps, you’ll be able to save Instagram photos/videos in a matter of seconds.
Android
1. EasyDownloader For Instagram
EasyDownloader lives up to its name. Open the app and it will run in the background – you’ll see the icon in the notifications bar. You can stop the app from running by pressing thePower button in the top bar.
Now go to the Instagram app and once you find the photo/video from the public profile you want to download, tap the three dotted menu button and select Copy Share URL.
The EasyDownloader app running in the background is programmed to listen to this command. As soon as you tap that button, the app will start downloading the corresponding image and you’ll get a notification. Tapping the notification will take you to the image.
2. Instagram Downloader Xposed Module (Root)
If you’re rooted and have Xposed Framework set up, there’s a module to make the Instagram download process a lot simpler.
Cool Tip: If you don’t know what Xposed Framework is, check out our guide on it and find out about the best modules.
Step 1: Open the Xposed Installer app. Go to Downloads, search for Instagram Downloaderand from the Versions panel, download the latest version.
Step 2: As Xposed modules are downloaded as apks, they will need to be installed as such. Tap the Install button and go back to the Xposed Installer app.
Step 3: Now go to Modules and check Instagram Downloader. You’ll now need to restart your phone for the module to start working.
I know the process of installing the module is not the most straightforward but it’s worth the feature this module enables.
Now that the phone has rebooted, open the Instagram app, choose a photo/video you like and tap the three dotted menu. You’ll now see a Download option.
What’s the advantage of doing all this instead of just using EasyDownloader app? First, you don’t need to enable the EasyDownloader app every time you want to download a photo. Second, as this is an Xposed module, it doesn’t take up nearly as much space or RAM as an actual app running constantly in the background.
If you’re rooted and have Xposed Framework installed, this way is just better.
iPhone
1. InstaSave
The app is free but is laden with banner and fullscreen ads. Thanks to the way iOS 7 works, InstaSave can’t communicate with the Instagram app directly.
You’ll have to first go to the Instagram app, choose the picture and from the three dotted menu select Copy Share URL.
Now open the InstaSave app and tap the Tap to Paste URL button. Now the photo/video will be previewed. Tap the Download button to download it.
2. Hashtack
I’ve previously written about Hashtack in detail. It’s an app that brings Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram into one single feed. One of the best features about Hashtack is that it allows you to save any Instagram photo/video directly to the Camera Roll with the press of a button.
You’ll of course need to sign in with your Instagram credentials to use the app. Once you see your Instagram feed, tap the Instagram logo on any photo to get a more detailed view.
Here you’ll spot a Save button. Tap it and the photo/video will instantly show up on your device. No switching apps, no copying links, nothing.
